TOPIC: Supporting a boat off the trailer

I am going to take my Custom Craft off the trailer in order to re-do the trailer. Right now, I have 4 popits that I was planning on using. The two in the stern will be flat and covered with carpet. The two in front I was planning on customizing a carpeted V support for each bow. The boat is 15'-10" and the span of the supports will be 11-12 ft. Should I put an intermediate support in there? I would probably not work on anything in the boat while it is supported that way.

Also, any tips for removing the boat from the trailer in the garage would be appreciated.

How much would you figure it weighs? Does the current trailer have rollers or bunks?

The boat weight 600 lbs (according to mfr literature), the 40 hp electric shift Johnson conservatively weight 200 lbs (would like to leave on the boat) All extras are taken out, but let's assume another 100 lbs. Total 900 lbs.

The trailer is was customized for the boat in 1964 and is an interesting combination of bunks and rollers, and a wooden support for the bows. I'm going to post a bunch of pics somewhere when I get the boat off.

Tip up the motor as high as it will go. Put two tires or something soft on the floor for the back end.

Tip up the trailer high and see if the boat will slide off. Let the back end hit the tires or soft things.

Push up on the tongue and pull out. It might slide off a bit. Once you get it to move a bit, the back end of the boat might be the heaviest part and allow you to tip the trailer back down which will prop up the front of the boat. Put two supports under it with the nose tipped up, then lower it onto them. Walk out with an empty trailer.

I've done it many times... and you don't have to over think it.

To get it back on, reverse that stuff.

Since it's a custom craft, it will sit nice & flat.

Tudor, your trailer looks about like mine, rust wise. (I'm trying to hold off until this fall on the re-do.) Please keep us posted on your project. Gonna media blast or sand manually?

I plan on taking it apart and sandblasting. The fall would be nice, but I want to have it done for the CC reunion in September
