TOPIC: AlumaCraft Tangier - I gots fins

AlumaCraft Tangier - I gots fins 12 years 7 months ago #61483

Found me a finned boat! 1960 or 1961 AlumaCraft Tangier fiberglassic 16 footer! She needs lotsa work. The bluish metallic hullside paint is not original. Appears as if the original hull and deck colour was teal blue.

No upholstery but she has the original fiberglass seat bases.

Not sure yet how to tell the difference between 1960 and 1961 models. The only marking on the boat is "W368" stamped into an aluminum casting on the starboard stern area.

For the time being she is going into storage awaiting restoration down the road.

Thats one cool looking little boat you found there. Should look really nice once you get it cleaned up and a little resto done to it. Skip.

Well, that's wicked cool! I'm in the thick of restoring one right now. Not much info, or photos, available out there on the web. I've posted some photos here of my recent transom replacement. I'm about to post some photos and questions about the floor.

I see that you have the armrest pieces running down the sides. I'm missing those. But I do have the glove compartment cover. I'm curious about your seats. Do you think those are the originals?

I hope these posts generate more info and resources. Good luck with yours!

Hey David,

Yup, I am pretty sure that the seats are original. They have the "storage lockers" mentioned in the literature. The original foam blocks that were inside the seats are also there. The wooden seat bases are rotten, but enuff is there to replicate new ones.

I do have the glove box cover.

There is another Tangier for sale on craigs list right now in Isanti, MN - it's in the Minneapolis craigs list.

I wrote to Alumacraft Boat Co. about the "W368" stamp. They responded. It is a serial number and it indicates she is a 1960 model year boat. They made 448 of the Tangier models between 1959 and 1961.

Fins are cool! When I first got into this 'hobby' I was kind of neutral on the fins thing, but now I really want one with fins. ;-)

There's a thread in the Support Section on resizing pics, Boggles.
www.fiberglassics.com/glassic-forums/home/support/how-to-post-pictures
Please start a new thread with pics of your boat, we'd love to see it when you get the pic posting sorted out! ;)
