TOPIC: The Man Cave as Art

The Man Cave as Art 14 years 6 months ago #8956

Herein lies a project
I've been wanting to get to
Took a few days to organize
Dropped her from the ceiling last night
The final touch for the day
Taking pictures from a single bank of lights

I'll post more, as I move along

Nice! I'm a sucker for wood boats, I've built and restored a few myself... MORE PICS, PLEASE!

The Skiff is a Whisp, designed by Steve Redmond
His idea was to have a light weight, hull that could be rowed, trolled, or sailed.
The near completed hull spent the last several years hanging from the ceiling of the man cave.
Before that, it hung for many years, from the garage rafters of the guy who started the project.
He lost interest and gave it to me.

My goal is to spend the next few weeks finishing her up.
Take her for a lake run, then sell.

The larger goal is to prepare the man cave to receive the G-3.
It is next in line.

I have come to the conclusion, I prefer, smaller boats.
Maybe, because, they fit in the cave.

I've been blessed with a great space to create.
It gets pretty crowded sometimes, largely due to my multiple interests:
Steel Sculpture, Boats, Airplanes, and whatever project that comes along to help pay the bills.

Yesterday was spent fabricating the upright mounts for the seats.
I opted to follow the contours of the hull rather than attach sticks to the sides.
Consequently, seventy-two, one inch, by five sixteenths strips of redwood were laminated together to form the six uprights.
Once they dry, I'll pull them off for contour sanding and shaping.

I'll keep posting the progress, tho I might be asked to move it over to the wood section.

Your 'Man Cave' Looks about like mine!

I also have too many interests, and it keeps the place full to capacity... Between boats, Blacksmithing, woodworking, and my artwork, there isn't much room to spare. Luckily, its a pretty big space :)

I am kind of familiar with that design- I was considering building one of those a while back. I ended up building a smaller, Phil Bolger designed boat, then I picked up the Glasspar, so never got to building another one... Perhaps some day...

Andrew
you mention artwork, what sort are you into?
I saw your glasspar, the paint is looking awesome!

As soon as I get the whisp done, I'll be pulling in the G3 for transom and floor replacement. The nasty work is done.
