Anybody know the average weight of a 100 HP Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, etc?

If you're talking about a '60s 100hp, they probably weight around 240-250lb. The 100 had a heavier-duty electric shift lower unit. a 1970 100hp V4 weights about 250, and a later-model 99.6 c.i. 100hp V4 weighs in at 288 lbs.

Your garden-variety 100hp Merc weighs in around 240lb, the early-60's "1000" models might be just a wee bit lighter but not much.

As an aside, a "modern" 70's-vintage 850 Merc weighs in around 252lb and a 99 cubic-inch Six weighs around 300 lb.

Later on Merc came out with a line of Big Bore 3-cylinders, 70, 80, & 90 hp. A friend of mine picked up a blown 90hp and rebuilt it. He put it on a generic 16' California-style ski boat, and the performance was pretty much equal to my old Merc 1000. It even sounded like a Baby Six when it idled! It was much quieter than the old Merc and drank less fuel. Wasn't as smooth, though, but not objectionably so. Pretty good engine, all in all. It skied very well on that boat.

Hope that helps, are you thinking of "Classic" power or "Modern" power?
