I have two mag drives that need the bearings replaced. I notice that with the pulley off, the shaft will tap down easy, but what do I remove to get to the bearing? Can't find any info in my books and I don't want to damage anything.

the cap has a lock washer with 2 locking tabs in the little grooves. must clean them out to see. bend them down and unscrew the cap. then tap the bearing out from the bottom to the top. while you are there disassemble the tower and clean and grease.
note this is only for the 56 and later only. for the early ones call me.

Hugh,

Not sure if this helps but here is a Kiekhaefer mag dis assembled.
I'm not able to get a larger pic so you can see numbers on bearings this is a mag for a Mark 55e. I was unable to see a few numbers on the bearings but here is what I have
top bearing Drive End FAFNIR 9103PPC1
Middle Opposite Drive ?6002XEZ
Bottom Magneto Pilot FAFNIR S5KDD

Yes I was. It is Fafnir S5KDD. Price's went form $5 to $40. I took the $5 ones  I just need one of the drives now but will do all three and have two ready spares in stock. Just another one of those things best done when things are apart.
