1975 50hp timing 6 years 1 month ago #137784

Hi, I have a 1975 with a distributorless ignition, the decal says to set max timing at 30 degrees. Is that where I should set it or should I go a little less. IThanks

Set the timing to 30 degrees, prop the engine for max rpm of 5500 at wot and use fresh gas. She will live just fine, the 500 in not as sensitive as the newer engines to detonation issues.

Sounds good, I do have a few props to experiment with. I have learned the hard way about the fresh fuel, i now use a stabilizer in any fuel that is going to sit for a while.thanks happy holidays!
