TOPIC: Need Help!-Tool for ‘75 Merc 500…

Need Help!-Tool for ‘75 Merc 500… 2 years 8 months ago #146339

Part #91-53126, bearing carrier retainer removal tool. These things are so hard to find online (for me), and $75-$125 when I stumble upon a “vintage” one. Is there an aftermarket tool (maybe Sierra) that would do the job, or is there another trick to skip the tool altogether?

For background, I am completely restoring a 1975 Mercury 500. The lower unit seems to move about freely and smoothly, but after stripping the rest of the motor down to the last bolt I would be ashamed if I left the lower unit as “good enough” and unchecked. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
