TOPIC: Replacement hub kits for 1962 Merc 500, 11 spline

Replacement hub kits for 1962 Merc 500, 11 spline 1 month 1 day ago #148942

I have a couple of props in need of re-hubbing. From researching it, the correct Mercury part# is 32053T. Questions:

-Does anyone know a source?
-Does anyone know of a prop reconditioning service that might be able to re-hub 11 spline props?
-Any recommendations for aftermarket manufacturers? I see Propco still offer 11 spline props made for the Merc 500.

Thanks, Brian

Thanks, but in my admittedly limited understanding of vintage props, what I've read is that the rubber hubs in vintage props can become stiffer/drier and more prone to slipping. My 12"p bronze 2-blade prop was shredded recently and yesterday my 10"p aluminum 3-blade was slipping. I have a total of 7 props:

(1) bronze 12"p 2-blade (shredded)
(1) bronze 15"p 2-blade (haven't tried yet but probably too much pitch for my Texas Maid)
(2) aluminum 10"p 3-blade (one is slipping)
(1) aluminum 11"p 2-blade
(1) aluminum 12"p 2-blade
(1) aluminum 13"p 2-blade

I'm trying to avoid buying more props which potentially have the same issue. I've found three sources overseas that claim to have the correct hub kit but I'd prefer to find something in this hemisphere. If I can't find something, I'm going to look at possibly making my own out of HDPE and gluing it in place.

One prop I'd like to have is the A-48-33772A1, which is a bronze 10"p 3-blade. My aluminum 10"p 3-blade is the one I've had the most success with, but I haven't tested all my props since I finally got the motor running right... which might be the reason I'm now spinning props, 2 in my last 2 outings.

Brian, just sent you an email with contact info for a gent in Georgia who can do your prop hub. He has a limited supply of the 11-spline hubs.

Hope that helps..............ed

Thanks, I haven't received your email but if it was sent via fiberglassics perhaps it wasn't forwarded correctly? I can't even find my email listed in my profile!

If you could send it directly that would be great... This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Edit... found my email on Fiberglassics and it's correct but haven't received a message. I also have an alternate email listed below...

OK, Brian, I sent the info directly to your Yahoo address. Hope that makes it!

I also sent you a "Connections" request from this site, which IIRC allows us to send private messages back and forth. Which would have been a lot easier I reckon!!

Good Luck.............ed

Just to follow up... I found the 'connection' you sent and sent you an email via the website. I haven't received the contact info you emailed at either of my addresses. Not sure what the issue is but if you don't receive mine I'd say there's something wrong with the mail forwarding on the site. My email to you didn't show up in my sent folder.

I think Yahoo is messed up. I used my AOL Mail (Aim.com) address to send that info to you directly. It sent ok and never bounced back.

I just remembered that I have an old Yahoo account, and tried to log in. Well, it wants to verify it's me. So it sent a code to my email address. Never got it. Tried getting the code sent to an alternate email address. Never got it. I think they have some serious problems.

Got another email that's Not Yay-Hoo and might work?? BTW I am getting all of your emails sent by this site to my primary address. Does Yahoo email have any Junk folders or other places for incoming mail to hide??

OK, that's the issue... both my emails were seeing email from Fiberglassics as junk. Got the info and I'll give him a try... thanks again, again!

Well, I guess Yay-Hoo! doesn't like me anymore! Well, take that, I don't like them either!

Glad you got what you needed.
