I just picked up a 1962 (I think) Mercury 700- The S/N is 1482328.

I'm looking for parts/service manual for it- I found a really generic one online, but haven't found anything too specific- Does anyone know where I can find one??

I've already read through the old archives, and picked up a few things there (like what's supposed to be in the hole at the top of the front cowl trim :) )

Any other info on this motor would be great!

Here's a great source for the manual, and other items you may need for that 1962 model, Andrew;
store.eastcoastmarineservice.com/category_s/810.htm
I've used them in the past, found them very accommodating.

Another great source for info and hard to find parts for these motors is Joe Poole at;

Thanks- They both look like great resources... I just ordered the service manual ($75- OUCH!), hopefully that'll cover anything that I need to get it running well.

Ferguson Poole looks like it'll come in handy, too- Especially since they're practically in my backyard :)

Andrew, here's a few other good online resources:

www.maxrules.com/fixoldmercindex.html

www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Mercury/700 (6 CYL.)/1413611 THRU 1566239/parts.html broken link but you can copy & paste into your browser's address bar.

www.crowleymarine.com

www.mercruiserparts.com

There are lots of aftermarket replacement parts available, these guys have good deals on Sierra brand and have a crossover from Merc OEM part # to equivalent Sierra P/N:

www.boatfix.com/searchsierra.asp

The little 66-c.i. Six is a sweet runnin', sweet soundin' motor when dialed-in. Extra attention to the setup of the dual-point distributor and synch of dist/carbs will make 'er purr like a kitten.

Slap a new set of JC6's in there, new impeller, service carbs, rebuild fuel pump, service ign, and she oughta be ready to hit the water this spring, eh??!!!
