TOPIC: Merc 400 water pump impeller-no flow

Merc 400 water pump impeller-no flow 13 years 7 months ago #29681

Hello I am looking for some help on a 1960 merc 400
My concern is with the water pump impeller. It seems that the impeller with it's little pin that fits in the tapered groove in the shaft is designed to catch and spin the impeller in only one direction. Problem is the direction the motor turns with the pull starter and the electric starter with negative ground is opposite to the direction the impeller needs to spin to catch and rotate. So my question is could there be a mismatch with the lower unit and power head. I see their is some reference to standard and counter rotation. Could someone clear this up for me, even a phone number would help. Thank you Scott
