stupid question 13 years 7 months ago #29764

hi, i am installing prop shaft seals on my 1968 50hp lower unit. the book says to install with the lip side facing down on the first seal then the lip side up on the second seal. in the picture of the seal is this the lip side of the seal?

yes
lip facing in prevents the oil from leaking out and the lip facing out prevents water going in

Great question!! you dont want the seals backwards

In your pic Propnut, it looks like the lip is facing up. ;) (It's hard for these old eyes to see the detail on the inside of the seal.)
