TOPIC: Latest Motor completed.

Latest Motor completed. 13 years 6 months ago #31119

Man it feels good to finish something at times, too many motors in the works right now, 2 Mark 78's, one 1963 850, one 1961 400, and one 350.

This is a 1973 1500, real nice motor going to Colorado.

Looks nice Darrel, did you use Phantom Black or a 2 part paint?

I believe in building them to use 'em, (boats and motors), but if I owned one that beautiful I'd HAVE to park it in the living room! Another great job, Darrell. ;)

I do all the motors in a base coat clear coat system. You can not get a one step paint to buff up as nice as a clear coat. The UV protection is allso much better in a clear coat.

I have had good luck with the Urethane 2 part paint from Peter at NY Marine. The shine is fantastic, no clear coat needed.

Great work. I have a 1500 too, except it is a '75 (I thought it was a 76, but the decals say its 75)

...and of course, mine does not look anything like it--mine is faded and scratched and...

Wow. How much did it cost to look that pretty? Coincidentally I am in Colorado too!

Carl Kiekhaefer is smiling from his grave. Looks beautiful. The body shop that painted my cowl also used a higher quality paint than Mercury and clear coated. This may be my grave marker with the inscription "Fast but did not Last".

I have thought about a mail box, never thought about a grave marker! Pretty good idea, may start working on the wife on that one.

So, do you do restoration work for other people or was this your own project?

I restore motors on the side, well 35 hours a week these days on the side! Plus a full time job.

But yes I do work for customers.
