Here, Is a prime example why people should tear down an old motor that is running just to check things out and replace seals etc...

When you get that barn find, a few new bearings and seals will make here proud again.

My 500 was having a tough time idling late last year. So this year I pulled it down.

A 13 dollar seal and some time and she will be good for a long time again.

I get blisters on my tongue telling people " you new motor is 50 years old and it needs attention "
Many folks want to " crank and hope that it runs "

Unfortunately, I'm one of the people who would have to leave that up to, well, one of you guys that rebuilds motors. I see that silver thing sticking out, and am guessing its not supposed to?
And therein lies my problem. I have no clue, and Nobody nearby wants to/ is able to look at / work on my Merc700. This will be the third summer since I redid the boat, and have yet to have a day on the water without issues. So, now I'm looking to buy another motor, one thats rebuilt and ready to hang and go...
