I just launched my rebuilt Mariner.
Ran excellent, although I need to tweak the idle up a bit for next breakin run. Put about 12 gallons of 25:1 through her, first 10 below 3500rpm.

Does anyone have any experience with the Merc or Mariner 71 cubic inch loop charged triple, in 70/75/80 or 90hp?

Those triples have an oil injection system and it is driven by a plastic gear on the crankshaft. There have been failures.--Early ones also had different pistons (upper guided vs crank guided rods )If you get a later one mix at 50:1

Professor,
Do you know whether or not those triples shared the same thermostat generated problem of sleeves slipping that the same era L-4 100-115 suffered from unless retro-fitted with a 120 thermostat?

The 4 cylinder is really the same as the 3 cylinder as far as construction is concerned ( one more identical cylinder ).
As for the sleeve " slipping " I do not have any experience in that area.
