TOPIC: Power tilt and trim for my 74 850 Merc???

Power tilt and trim for my 74 850 Merc??? 13 years 3 months ago #41086

Does anyone know what year newer Power tilt and trim unit would work on my 74' 850 merc? What years do I need to be looking at for a used unit?

Thanks,

SS

The "Mercaholics" can fill you in on the exact details SS, but I think you'll need one of the units the uses rams that replace the shocks, and use an external pump and reservoir. (70's era, thought I had my hands on one last week but it slipped away, I was too slow getting the deal done!)

Yeah I saw that deal, it would have been sweet. I'm just trying to see what year ranges and motor sizes i have to look for. Any idea what a good used price is for a unit?

50hp on up will fit $400.00 for a good set.

with a little effort you can also take the intermediate housing the mate it to the integral T&T system & bracket.

So what you guys are saying if I understand correctly is that it's as simple as taking the two shocks off and installing the rams, pump, and reservoir. There's no need to switch the motor mount out? I'm assuming the mounts were all the same just with or without the power tilt and trim unit.

Thanks,

Yep ! thats it...you of course need to mount pump and run wiring up to you for trim switch...and run hoses...if your lucky you'll get one with the rubber groment that the hoses run throught for a clean look...

I have been hunting these set ups down around me...
I have one on my 50hp, picked up another unit that came on a motor, and one another one that guy was going to use but never got around to it...new limit switch and has the dash mount control....

problem with ebay'n for them is price of shipping of a whole set up, that pump weighs a good amount...people are strating to list mics boat stuff on Craigslist , too might be able to find a bad motor with a set up on it...then part motor out and pay for your loss..
