Well made my own jack plate out of 4x4/.25 angle aluminum and mounted the 1250 to the Carlson Contender.

Went out today and damn Thom you were right that 99 cube 1250 will flat out walk by my 93 cube 1100. The mid range punch is impressive.

Ok the question???

How to rebuild the transom swivel? It it the shaft or the bushing that wear?

This thing gets squirrly approaching 60 mph and its mostly due to the slop on the swivel area.

Conrad I had 2 old mercs with sloppy swivels one a 4 cly & one a 6cyl in both cases it was the bushing worn and no problem with the shaft except one bushing was worn so bad 1/2 was missing and the shaft had wear from the failed bushing

milkdud eh ;)
edit: nice job on the jackplate, have any closeup pics?

Is that the stock lower unit? What kind of prop is that?

Yes its a stock lower unit. And that is a small ear chopper prop made by mercury. The small ear's were made for the inline 6 motors.

Ill take another pick of the jack plate tonight

Well I hope you still have that kill wire on ya when you take this one out......LOL. I sure wish I had met you when I had my contender....I even have the 1250 shorty to match, but I sold the boat about 5 years ago, I kept the motor, I just might put it on ugly peg this summer, You going to Beloit this year?????sure could use a contender out there.

Yep I have a kill switch on it now. Boat ran away from me once at WOT. NOT GOOD.

I just mounted solid mounts and replaced the swivel with a good one. It is now tight as ever. Need to get dual cable set up soon to finish it off.

Beloit is not that far from me. I was thinking of going but not sure when it is? My boat is an ugly duckling so its not much for show. Its just go right now.

I hope to paint it someday.
