TOPIC: "Pee" tube?

"Pee" tube? 14 years 7 months ago #5976

Thanks to the help of Dave Cummings, I was able to get the old plug out of the top of the head and now have it set up to run a 3/8 pee tube. Couple of questions: is 3/8 too big?

Where should I run this baby? Just below the wrap around cowling on the same side I steer from? (You can see I got it pointed that way already.)

Also stuck new NGK plugs in tonight. I was REAL careful tightening them down!

Thanks for any advice on the pee tube folks!

Frank

I was thinkin smaller would be better. Run it out below the wrap around cowl right Dave?

10-4 run it to the side easiest to see when you sit at the wheel.

Pee tube questions 14 years 7 months ago #6235

Do I need a clamp on that tube coming out the top of the powerhead?

Is it okay for the tube to touch the powerhead?

Thanks for any help!

Frank, that tubing is the rubber kind, right? It didn't come with one on the pressure gauge, so I used a small zip tie cinched down tight just to be safe on mine. It would be better if the hose didn't touch the powerhead, IMHO. The heat from the motor may melt it eventually, or the vibration may rub a hole in it. Have you got enough slack to keep it off? May have to use a rubber insulated cable holder or something (from NAPA, of course!) ;)

That's what I needed to know, thanks Mark, we can handle that.

Just got the steering mounted, next is the controls. Need a 3" hole saw to finish the steering, and it looks like I'm missing a part for connection to the motor.

I couldn't afford the set of hole saws that went up to 3", so I found something (a tumbler from our kitchen, PLEASE don't tell my wife) that was close to that diameter and traced the circle with a marker. Then cut out with a sabre (jig) saw. ;) If you're cutting the hole thru the splashwell, you can stay a little smaller than 3" and the boot will cover it up.

Somebody will come up with the steering link Frank, I just know it.

Yuk, yuk, yuk. Found it Mark. All alone in a big unmarked shoe box. I knew I had the darn thing! After getting that motor on yesterday, couldn't sleep, not all here today.

I think I'm gonna try the sabre saw thing, good idea, thanks.

Seems to me there otter be a nut where that line points...

I can't remember for sure, but it seems like that was where a big plastic (red) nut/cover went. I think it just kept water and debris from getting into the tube, and maybe scraped any off the same from sliding part of the cable. (As I've said many times, getting old SUX! My Merc is gone, and I deleted all the pics off my magic box.) As I recall, the nut on the other end of the tube holds the cable, so you should be alright until you can find a replacement.
