TOPIC: Starting to look like a motor (coil question)

Starting to look like a motor (coil question) 12 years 5 months ago #62445

She's back together, save installing the distrib. I'll get it running with the stock ignition, then work out my Pertronix conversion.

Coil question. Early on I bought two new coils, one of which the case cracked on (at the top at one of the posts). So I have the two originals, and one of the new ones. Is there a Multimeter test I can do to see if one of the one old ones is at least close in "power" to the new? I checked with the local AutoZone, I thought they could test coils, but no. I priced new ones and dont want to spend $40+ on a coil I will hopefully not use.

Peter;
You really need a coil tester to check them out. However it's been my experience that those coils rarely go bad. Thing to do would be to use one old one & the new one & if it doesn't run rite change the offender.
