TOPIC: mercury 7.5 hp prolem

hello never been on this part of the forum but a friend has a mercury 7.5 hp I think built around 1980 not sure he asked me to take a look at his engine I thought maybe someone over nows the problem

he has two probloms as first before he changed his impeller there was only coming steam out of the hole for cooling and after changing it nothing happend no water and even not steam and it runs for maybe 10 seconds and falls down does someone now were I can look at

I was thinking like a clogged pipe or so

maybe someone nows the problem and what I can do best to solve it?

At the top of the water tube, between the belly pan and the powerhead base, there is a plastic grommet that the water tube seats into. If the motor gets hot due to overheating, this grommet can melt and block off the water passage. Only way to check it is to remove the powerhead from the exhaust housing and take a look...

if it is melted take it out and throw it away. new gasket and you are set.

Today I had a look at the engine was not looking that good as first I will just clean the carb because now he sad it was fooling a bit and once having it running he can't make any rpm and the carb was realy dirty so hope after cleaning it it's running great
