TOPIC: Merc 1250 Switched Power

Merc 1250 Switched Power 11 years 7 months ago #76044

I have a Merc 1250 that I'm preparing to try to start. It's been sitting for 25 years.

I'm also rewiring the boat. My question is can I get switched power from the tach harness? If so, can I use it to power dash lights, nav lights and a stereo? As long as each is properly fused.

Thanks,
Mark

Yes you can. I believe it's the white wire coming out of the tach harness. But I wouldn't , it's a very light wire 18 guage I think. Personally I usually run a new 12 guage Hot & ground from the battery to a fuse block under the dash. Makes a nice neat place to connect all those things.

I'd agree, run yourself a separate set of circuits, especially if you are going to be spending the time to re-wire the boat. I ran a separate circuit for all the lights, one for the pumps, etc.

Ok, thanks guys. Makes total sense. Guess I was trying to take the easy way out!
