TOPIC: Clean old plastic tank?

Clean old plastic tank? 14 years 6 months ago #7803

I scored a bunch of "stuff" yesterday, including an old plastic tank. It has a bit of crud in it, and just barely enough old mix (not much!) to make me want to clean it out. What do folks use for cleaning old plastic tanks? Mineral spirits? Lacquer thinner? Acetone? Gas?

Any and all suggestions welcome! thank you,

Frank

Fill it up with some dish soap, a gallon or so of hot water and shake the crap out of it. Flush it out several times with clean water, dump all the water out leaving it to dry with the cap off for a few days. Not much sticks to the plastic so your basically just rinsing it out.

Ive been running plastic tanks for the last year on all my boats...no way i will ever run those old steelies anymore!!

I concur, and if the crud doesn't come loose easily, throw a handful of good size nuts and short bolts in and shake well.
