TOPIC: Just a quick brag-brag-brag :-)))

Just a quick brag-brag-brag :-))) 11 years 2 months ago #84212

Last year I sent one of my Monster Mercs (inline-6) to Australia.
Unaware that the purchaser was going to formally race it.
Now that winter approaches us here in the USA,...It is Season #2 for my Merc & it is doing very well.
The owner-driver started in 5th position off the pole in a 9 boat race and got a first place win!!!
How cool is that!!!????
He is running an Allison hull in the 1800cc Class.
Y-Up,...Grampa Thom is grinnin' wide :-) :-) :-)

Yep, it takes a really stout motor to run like that.

There's a famous movie quote that reads something like "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up!". Awesome job Thom. ;)

Hey, wait a minute? Who was first involved in this? Ha! ME!

He posted on S+F about a XS he had (think bought, or had), but needed a good going over. This had to be a couple years ago now. At the time, I didn't realize he was "down under". But I got him hooked up with the Doc, and one thing led to another, and ya know the rest of the story now. He's a good kid, eager to learn, dedicated, and glad everything came out fine considering the distance those two! I remember him sending me pix, for me to make sure it was a XS "J" block, and for sure did have the "J", and the LWP. Pic what a LWP looks like, as rare nowadays.

(PS..Doc, seya tomorrow to BS!)

Yer right Robby!,...I was pretty sure you opened this connection 'back-in-the-day', but wasn't positive.
Food for thought on use of the Mercury xs lower water pick-up lower unit:
They are designed for use on tunnel-boats with negative trim & you can be at risk of water starvation when used on a vee-hull using positive trim & bow-lifting props. In this case I feel it is best to use a Bob's Machine nose cone kit or other similar alteration.
I've been toying with a 'low buck' water pick-up design for use with positive trim & will start a new thread once I have it completed and proven as safe to use.

Hey Doc, looking at that Allison of Jades, besides me wishing I still had my Switzercraft/XS, I wish I still had my 13/14? (forgot now) Ally. Heck it was raced with a 70 Merc before I bought it with a blown motor. Stuffed a Merc 50 on and still one fast boat. If still had, well the 135 ya built for my Flatty, would be on it! Damnm, as seems like shoving big Merc stacks on little boats is the way to go now!
