TOPIC: My tow car

The body shop sent me some photos tonight. They just sprayed the clear coat today. Just needs color sanding and buffing, then back to me for the tough part, putting all the trim back on. And installing new rubber around the doors and tailgate. My Glasspar will be so happy!

Thanks. It's a 53 Plymouth 2 door wagon. (Plymouth called it a Suburban in 53). I've owned it for 10 years. Great old car. Here's how it looks with the trim on. It will be nice to finally have all the paint and body work finished.

Brought the car home yesterday. Overall a nice job, but 2 or 3 things that make you wonder what the shop was thinking. I'll be back over there later in the week to ask that very question. Seems like in this part of the country, good help is not hard to find...it's impossible!

Well Ron, I have my "before" picture anyhow.
My old Allis Chalmers is fun but when I need to do any real work I borrow my son's little Case tractor. I believe it's powered by a 3 cyl diesel. |

Norm, nice tease you let out. What issues?? Back in the '50's a neighbor had one just like that but it was a dark green. In today's terms it would have belonged to a soccer mom.

When they put the tailgate back on, they moved it side to side a little, to line up the screws on the external hinges. Scraped off about a 1/16" band of fresh paint next to one hinge. Worse, and I don't know how they missed this, the edges of the hood, hidden when it's closed, have four big runs in the new paint. Since the hood is always open when I go to cruise nights or shows, the runs would be the first thing anyone would notice. And as I pointed out to the shop owner, the first thing anyone would ask is, "Who the heck did your paint???" It's an easy fix for the shop and they will cheerfully make it right. Just gotta ask, what were they thinking?

The same company that made the moon discs in the old days still makes them. I like the look. I stayed sort of "old school" when I built the wagon, so I kept the flathead but had it rebuilt by a good shop. Runs great. Factory overdrive too.

Love it. Way back when the family car was a '50 Dodge same engine but I think you might have changed the intake and snuck in an extra carb along the way
 Same six volt system and air horn to boot. Looks like you could eat off that thing. |

you need to find a nice inboard boat to tow around with a flat six in it to go with that car spent many days on my dads fishing boat with a Chrysler flat six

Picking up the car this afternoon. Once they got the left and right hinges sorted out, the tailgate works fine. But, they had to re-spray the area because the paint was damaged.
Here's how it looked on a road trip to Florida a while back. I call it "6 weeks in a teardrop". That's a Porta Bote on the roof
