I know Shelby 18 has a red belly 8n. Does anyone else dabble with vintage Ford tractors .......or any other brand? Thought I 'd change the title for more tractor talk.

Jim, I don't dabble but used to have one on the orchard. Used it for everything from disking, plowing, spraying, pulling and plowing snow. A real workhorse simple to keep up.

That's on my short list of things to gather. When I buy acreage, a small Ford tractor is priority. For now on my parents farm is a Farmall H

I grew up on Ford and Massey Fergusons, but lean more towards the Fords. Farmalls are also fine tractors and paint up purdy. I've painted Fords,Masseys and a John Deere, always wanted to do a Farmall.

Jim, I didn't know they came in sizes. This was back in the early to mid 50's, all I did was drive it. Put in 4th gear, jam the throttle lever up all the way and cruze the back field roads.

We don't have room for larger tractors here so I'm into small ones. I have a Model 73 International Cub and a 12 hp Jacobsen that made Ford lawn tractors back then. It is in very nice shape.Mine is orange and white. Ford is Blue. The Ford was taken at a show. I do show my tractors. I also pull some. Here is me pulling with a 61 Cub originalk with an 18 hp opposed twin Kohler on it.

Cal, with it being a 4 sp, I'd wager it being an 8N or a Jubilee. Here's some internet pics. not mine. 8N 1953 Ford jubilee

Robert, those tractors look like a lot of fun. And they have a large following. I know for a fact those Cubs bring good money.

Re:Any of you guys fool with old Ford tractors ? 8 years 11 months ago #118367

My 73 is rated as the 4th hardest to get. My son has a Model 8oo that is the hardest to get. He buys and sells them, parts and even fixs them. He said I stole mine at $200. Both my Cub and Jacobsen are users. I mow my grass with both. I also have a couple Bolens also. One with a 10 hp Wisconsin I use to till my garden. The other one is going to be a pulling tractor since the 8 hp Briggs engine needs rebuilt. I'm getting a 18 hp Opposed twin to put on it also.

If that's rare, try finding a 17hp Yamaha YT6700 like I have.

We are talking about putting a V twin on another one. Cristen is wanting to try pulling. She is eight. I pulled against a 9 year kid with a John Deer. I beat him but he is very competitive. Here is another pic of the 61 Cub. Maybe it sounds stupid to some but I'm having a ball.

Looks to me like a whole bunch of fun ,Robert. A buddy had one of those old model cub cadets and I always thought it was a well built heavy duty machine.

Ron, my Dad had a 1920 2wd with turf tires and a 6' Bush hog finish mower he mowed his yard with. My sister still has it. Great little tractors. I have a 1957 Ford Model 660 and a 1989 Ford 4610 SU. The SU, I inherited from my Father. I repainted the 660 and added power steering to it.

Thanks Rick, it's been a great machine. Usually, if the little 660 can't do the job,the 4610 weighing in at 7000 lbs has a little more a$$ to take care of it

Jim L.,

We still have a 1918 Ford Model N with hard rubber tires on the family farm, that the last time I was home that was still being used to pull a trailer loaded with firewood.

I've thought many times that it was a fun project to restore but NOT yet.

yours, satx

. No apologies necessary , Greg . They are great machines . Bet that cab will spoil Ya. I changed the title of the topic to include any brand which is what it should've been in the beginning. We need more pics of everybody's machines.

I recently inherited my dads 1955 Ferguson to35. It needs some fixing up, but I plan on putting it to work when I get it running good.

Those Fergusons were tough . I work on folks old tractors from time to time and have had a wrench to a few 1960s MF 35s and later 135s. Yours got the z134 Continental 4 cyl?

Yes it does have the z134. Is there anything special about that particular engine? As of right now I know almost nothing about the tractor.

They were a great engine. Smooth running,Very dependable. If I remember right, those should be a 12 v electrical system with a delco remy regulator. A dual 2 stage clutch for live PTO. A six speed with hi and lo range tranny ,dual lever quadrant for the lift. The one thing I recall that could worry you a bit is the gear shifter jamming between two gears sometimes, but rare. No problem to fix it as you just take a long screwdriver and run it down into the filler beside it and unjam them.

John, that's a neat backhoe. Those machines will surprise the heck out of ya what they can do. A buddy's got a backhoe attachment that goes on his skidsteer. I never would have guessed that digger would work as good as it does.

Usually around Christmas, I like to have a little project going on downstairs in the basement. This year,it was painting my new/old plow. Painted it Ford red,but the florescent lights make it look orange. Got a "Dearborn Farm Equipment " decal a coming for it for the finishing touch :) .

Don't so much as fool around with them but their still used. The '47 Farmall was bought in 1960 to cut grass at my Dads business. Brought home in the mid 60's to cut grass and plow snow at home. Now since '87 just plows snow. The '59 Lo Boy was bought in '87 to take over the grass mowing, cuts approx 2 acres a week.
The '48 8N was the 2227 one made and was bought new by my Grandmothers cousin. It was used for cutting and maintaining trails on her horse farm. It took over cutting grass at Dads business until '72 when it retired to doing odd jobs around the house that the Cubs can't do
