TOPIC: my shed is finally being built

my shed is finally being built 12 years 11 months ago #52867

Day two of construction on my new toy box. 34' x 70' pole shed. It is to small for all my boaty toys, but it is the largest I can build per the zoning ordinances.

Trusses get hoisted in place tomorrow.

I'm proud for you Andreas, that's going to be soooo nice when it's finished! At least you'll get some of them inside, and have a great place to work on them as well. Congrats on getting it started, please share progress pics and keep us posted. ;)

Eventually about 31 ft. of the length will be partitioned off, wired, insulated, heated and finsihed for shop space. That's not in the near future however. I'll be flat broke (again) as soon as I pay for this shell.

Wow! what a great stucture. I have a 24x48 storage barn. It holds 2 boats 2 snowmobiles a pontoon and my 2002 Dura Max truck plus other odds and ends. Two other boats are still covered and outside. Plus another pontoon.
My Garage is packed full of other stuff including my 1970 Bearcat,two generators, powerwasher and you name it.
End result . You never have enough storage. :angry:

You are going to love the space.
34x70 is a big footprint.
Good on ya.
It will echo inside when empty. ;)

You planning on buying the Queen Mary to park in there? My shop was abit bigger and I filled it up fast by not thinking ahead. Cleaned it out once and kept it that way finnaly. You will be happy with that size, At least you will be able to turn around in it. Keep us posted on your progress and have fun with it. Skip.

WOW...congrats...that would be sooo nice to have NEW to work with...after years and years of having my toys scattered over 4 countys we bought a 50x100 timeless old building (was an alice chalmers dealership) last year....with an attached old bank....all brick and lots of problems....working on a 15x24 office and bathroom today...can finaly get all 5 redfish,3 lonestars, and mis lake and sea and others inside....plus a 20x20 open whenever store (it's on main street)...lots of roof and whatnot issues common with 100 plus year old buildings...starting out everything new would be sooo nice...best of luck john

I love the character of the old buildings. Maybe you could start up the bank again. Somehow make vintage boats the collateral for giving out loans?

The crew knocked off a little after 3:00 PM. Didn't get here 'till 09:00. Bankers hours I guess. I started work at 06:00 and I am still at it at 5:20 PM.

Ready for steel sheathing in the morning.

Must be about 12' (inside) ceiling height? Nice (Trying to calculate visually judging by height of the workers)
Are you putting any skylights (clear panels) in the roof AJ?
Pro = Lets light inside
Con = Probably not as strong as steel panel
Cost = ? don't have a clue !

Yup, 12 ft. eave height.

No sky lites.

Pretty plain jane building. No wainscot, no skylites, no eave lites, no cupula, no shutters.

It looks great Andreas, very nice indeed! What's with the walls not going all the way to the ground? I'm guessing (please keep in mind I know nothing about building construction) it's to leave room to pour a slab of concrete later???

Re:my shed is finally being built 12 years 10 months ago #53272

Mouse access.

Yes, slab will be poured later. But another board has to be installed once the frost is out of the ground next summer. Since the ground was frozen and they attempted to dig it out but failed, they built it higher than was planned. They could have gotten it dug out but it would have cost ME a bunch more money. One of those construction decisions quickly made on the spot. Good thing I work from home and could be on site.

Got the bottom buttoned up on three sides on Saturday 31 Dec. North side will have to wait until frost is out of the ground in May or so.

Re:my shed is finally being built 12 years 1 month ago #69723

OK I have to know, what does that cost?
I was thinking something similar, but smaller.
Those steel buildings sure go up in a hurry. Is it steel?
Did a local company install it?
I love the barn type look.
