For some reason, I really like the looks of these Johnson motors. My 75 v-4 ever craps out, I may just update... baltimore.craigslist.org/boa/5053984094.html

Those E-TECS are some of the best outboards built these days.

A good friend is an outboard mechanic at a shop in Gig Harbor, Wa and he has many Good Words to say about them.

The 90 has smooth lines and nice trim.

I'm not sure if I'm liking the new Big-HP G2 motors, though, maybe they'll grow on ya' after a while!!!

Ed,I was wondering how the motor in the op pic would look painted the '63 v-4 colors with the Johnson badges and medallions tastefully applied to an extra hood for it ?? The hood style would go pretty good with the fins on my Funliner :) The g2s are still a little too " high tech" looking for an old boat for my tastes.

I seem to recall pics posted here of newer motors with a "classic" cowling grafted on.

Merely painting & re-badging as you are thinking would add quite the nostalgic look.

Yeah plus it would be A LOT easier too. Fitting an old hood to the newer bottom end would be tough.
