I was really considering it until I mapped it!! Unless I can teach the van to swim across the pond, its not worth my time. Too bad, cuz I would gladly buy that one and part out the 1000 with the locked lower unit. I know just who I would part it out to - Me!!

That would solve some of the questions regarding wiring and a carb upgrade on the 850, spares for the 1500, and how I am going to put the 1000 back together with all of its missing parts and cosmetic issues. I would also upgrade to a 1000 with T&T. Sounds like a good trade.

But...., I think this one is calling out to Kyle / Curse. Go get it!!!

Kyle - if you don't want it cuz its a long shaft, let me know and we can try to set up a situation like I was going to do for the other 1000. I would gladly meet you at the bottom of the pond if you could run up and pick it up for me. Might even buy you a beer or two for your trouble!!!

63LSTriton - was that other merc I6 (with the bad lower unit) a 1965 Merc 1000? If you were looking at parting it out and robbing parts out to yourself, would there be parts left that I could consider? Maybe if you took carbs and ???, would you have the upper end of the motor cowl with powerhead left? Maybe I could help you be an enabler if the price was reasonable for what you may have left that I could use. The distributor/coils, etc is something I always fear I will not find when mine go bad. I occasionally make that trip to the south of the pond to visit family, so p.m. me if I could ever help you out on one of my runs (a couple times a year). I guess I am trying to be an enabler too :)

Don't know who is worse - Cal, Mark, my girlfriend, the voices in my head, or you!!! :P  :P  All you guys want me to keep buying, buying, buying!!! :side: :side: :side: :side:

I am going to give Kyle first swipe at it though. If he doesn't want it then I will probably have to pull the trigger. I would probably make the trip over the top of the pond, stopping at the Island with the girlfriend.

Dr Go / Mark - we can definitely work something out if you travel down to the Toy Shop. I might be running right past you to pick up the '74 Marlin, but I won't have any room for the 1000 on the trip up, and while I could drop a trailer at your place, I doubt that the '74 is set up for a tandem trailer set up. I also doubt that the Honda would like pulled a tandem rig. Cops would probably pull me over just for being an idiot.

Never thought of that name/boat connection...just a coincidence I am sure.

not trying to persuade you towards a buy, just thought it might end up with mutual benefit. I really need to slow down and gets some progress done...but we all know we have to keep all options open when trying to get our equipment in good shape and have back-up parts just in case to reduce downtime.

Dr Go - I had already convinced myself on the buy - you just helped a little. However, Kyle gets first dibs. He is planning on reaching out to the seller today. I told him that if he is not interested to let the buyer know that I will consider it.

BTW - you should see my garage. I am loaded for bear with pending and unfinished projects!!! However, you hate to turn down a good deal when you see one. I am thinking the 1000 with T&T would work out well on the pontoon my dad is looking to buy in the spring.

I just posted a 950 SS in sightings. A little more pricey than this one, but looks to be in great shape.

Kyle - did you get anywhere with this guy?

Looks like the price dropped to $200. I just dropped him an email to see whats up.

Merc gurus - would I be able to make the T&T from a Thunderbolt equipped 1000 fit on the 63 Merc 850 once it got the right color paint job?

Kyle - I do make runs from north central Wisconsin down to Michigan City, Indiana to visit family several times a year, so if you tell me what years you are looking for, I can help look in Wisconsin and Mn and send info your way. If you find and work a deal, I can get it that far for you. PM me with what years you are targeting and what features (like short shaft, etc.) I will help if I can.

The T&T that was on that 850 is the same as the 1977 1150 (that replaced it) had on it from the factory. The only difference was the 1150 had the trim buttons on the throttle handle and tilt button on the dash. The P.O. installed it on the 850 in the mid 70's.

Bill,

I don't remember that that 850 had T&T on it. I know that it was missing some of the "helper" rams as you had taken them for the 115. I will look tonight, but you sent along the motor and controls, but no T&T motor or hoses. Did you take it off, or did I just totally miss that?
