I am going to "off topic" my own thread here. In my original thread about this MTZ boat there was some discussion about a boat on the cover of a Merc ad from 1961. I had run across one that is similiar in a for sale add. The seller advertised it as a 1966 Sportline. Here is the Merc add and the pic from the boat add. And sure enough, there is a Sportline here in the library.

.. VERY interesting ad.. I dont know why you west coast guys are not
beating a path to this guys yard... It is not a Home -made boat
with the " Z " in the reg, nor nothing to do with Montana.
. Is this Merc 600 actually a SIX cyl motor. I know 700 were 6 cyl
Face plate looks long. ?? This hull is so valuable going forward
soome one need to pull the trigger . Most everyone remembers the South Fla yellow rocket....... www.glassicsonline.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11453430

That's actually quite a rare motor, only produced in 1960. I've never even laid eyes upon one (except on the 'Net).

It was a Direct Reversing (aka "Dockbuster") Inline Six, rated at 60hp. I can't recall if it's a detuned 66-c.i. block or has the 60-c.i. block like the older Mark 75.

Here's a bit of info:

Cool boat, more work than I could handle though, even if it's only on the other side of the mountains.

Cheers..........ed

That Merc is a 6 cyl. One of the DR motors.
I should just go get this thing and hang onto it.
