TOPIC: Volvo Penta AQ 100 Shifting Question

Volvo Penta AQ 100 Shifting Question 12 years 4 months ago #67113

I am ready to install the rebuilt BB70 today, however, the AQ 100 sterndrive shifting levers seem stuck. Should they shift to neutral by hand or do I have to hook them up to the morse cables first?

It should shift by hand, your cable may be stuck so remove it from the lever arm. These drives use a cone clutch sliding back and forth which moves easily, I don't remember if there is a spring load or not on these but at any rate it should not take to much effort to move the lever arm by hand. The cables themselves often rusted and bound up making everyting hard to move.

We are having trouble with our morse controls on our 62 glasspar. Any idea where to get replacements? Or to upgrade to something easier to use?

I replaced the teleflex cable for the sterndrive. Your's looks like you definitley need a new one. I think I found them at Jamestown Distributors. What is going on with the Morse control itself? Have you taken it apart?

The controls actually work well. At this point the cables arent working and broken so its not going in or out of gear. Cant get it into nuetral at times to lift the prop for travel. Im assuming its because the cables are so warn. They are engaging on the control side but at the engine you have to manually push it down to get it into gear on the drive itself. Our boat is 16 ft and the cables measure at 14 ft. Were there a specific one you got? I found the 33c for morse to volvo. Ive never replaced cables before so im not sure how to go about it.
