I wonder if anyone recognises this boat? I believe it is a 1972 16ft fiberglass. Maybe a U built? It had a 50 horse Johnson, when it was purchased in an estate sale.

Thanks in advance

Pretty nice looking boat, 72. (Welcome, BTW) Have you checked the starboard side of the transom just under the rub rail for a hull id#? That's about the time they started "casting" them in back there, the last two numbers will be the year of manufacture. I notice it doesn't carry any registration numbers, wonder what's up with that. Did you get any info/history with the boat?

The Glassic Library has some great info on id'ing a boat, hopefully someone will chime in with a little more info to help narrow down your search.

Thanks for the compliments and the great info! I purchased her from a friend who had bought it at an estate sale in Kamloops, BC.

It wasn't very pretty then, it came with a 59 Johnson 50 hp.
He restored the fiberglass and had it painted by a local autobody shop.

He only had the Johnson run once, he was at the back with the cscrew driver on the carb and his buddy at the throtle. When he hit the sweet spot the boat launched and scared the crap out of him. He ran a kicker on it and fished with it until he offered it up for $700 on the trailer. The seats are shot and the windshield was broken and not attached.

I put in a new fuel tank under the front hood and mounted a custom acrylic smoked windscreen with a nod to Searay in its line.

There she sat for three years before we could install, new steering (hydrolic), steering wheel, Power trim and a freshly rebuilt 84 Yamaha 90 HP 2 stroke. This is motor is much lighter than the Johnson. I have talked to a lot of Boat dealers and researched the crafts details on line but no firm results. It looks familar to many but no one has known for certain.

I will check the transom this weekend. My friend just offered up a transom plate that he found sweeping up the garage!

It's issued by Canada D. O. T.
#DOT113587
SV-16-72

CRS Patent IND
SV-16

The plate says 75HP - 1405 Gross load

?
What kind of trouble am I in now?

maybe some body will come along and set me straight, but i think the old motors hp was at the prop, and the new ones are at the motor
or vise/versa lol
so 15hp difference may not be trouble

woosterken

prior to (I think it was 1978) they were rated at the flywheel
after they were rated at the propshaft so there is a maybe 15% difference

Do you know where to find a graph plotting these two ratings could be found? Did manufacturers record both data?

Appreciate all the help!
