Hi all -

In looking to clear some stuff from my project list (waaaay overloaded!), I'm wondering if anyone can identify this Ski Boats Inc, Milw, WS, hull.
It has a Berkeley jet-drive and s/n, SKJ(5 or S)14xxM75E indicates '75 model?

Thanks.

Terry

Looks way familiar to what a friend had back in the 70's, on the Fox Lake Chain, in Illinois. Same high rear sides. Remember it in my head, but thats about all. But I do remember him and me doing a little racing against my Switzercraft/XS. Cleaned his clock, laid off, he kept going by me, cut in front of me, and that Jetovater REALLY soaked my boat BIG time! Lotta fun, couple dumb kids!

Here's interior shots (yes, those are weeds), which may help identify it.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Sidewinder lines, probably one of their many "clones".

Sure looks like a Sidewinder copy. Check out: www.sidewinder-boats.com

Yes, the Manufactirer's Identification Code (MIC) ending in "75E" indicates a 1975 model year boat - made in December 1974.

Thompson Boat of Peshtigo, WI purchased assets of Sidewinder Marine in early 1974. Sidewinder's operations were moved to Thompson's plant at Peshtigo, WI.

Looks like a fun boat, what ever it is Terry! Has some Glastron/Carlson look to some of the lines of the craft, but quite a few from that era did as well. Needs a lot of love, though. Are you trying to find her a new home? (Not me, but others may be interested.)

Yes, I'd like to find a good home for it, but I hope to find out what the model name is before I list it.
I've accepted that I won't live long enough to deal with all the projects I've accumulated.

NCIC Boat Codes lists 2 Ski Boats, Inc, with different MIC; MIC SXJ is listed as Ram Investments Of South Fl.
I found a listing of one Ski Boats, Inc, Milw., WS, as out of business in '80, which'd be a good candidate, but no info on their products.

A closer look and the MIC is SKJ, which is one of the Ski Boats, Inc, listed in the Boat Codes.

Now if I can just find something on their boat line...........

Hi,
It likely is a Cobra-Jet brand. We sold these following the sale of Sidewinder, as my father was very disappointed with the construction and quality of the Thompson produced Sidewinders. Ken Baker, the founder of Sidewinder, moved to Wisconsin, and produced the Cobra-Jet Boats. We were very happy with these, but Ken decided to return to California (about 1976), so we switched again to The Avenger Boats for the 1977 models (we continued with this brand for 25 years). Although not a Sidewinder in name, I do not consider them a clone.

Regards,
Joe

I believe you nailed it, Joe.
And I'd agree they can hardly be called clones, since Baker built 'em. ;)

Research shows other Cobra-Jet owners posting the same MIC, SKJ, for their boats.

I have the 18', but was there a special name or designation for them?

Hi Neil -

Offhand, I'm not sure - think it's a 650 or 750 parts engine - never looked at it.

But if you like dockbusters, I can sure cure the itch!

So now that I know what it is, if anyone's interested, it'll be listed in Glassifieds. :)

Thanks to all who helped me sort it out.
