What have you people found to be the best stuff for bringing back some of the old luster? I have plenty of elbow grease...

I had the same question last week then I ran across this tech article here on the forum. I actually started the process and have about 1/3 the boat done, so that is my project for this weekend... finish it! Looks good and really does work well!

Most Excellent! Thank you! I don't think it is going lower the elbow grease! But it will be done right!

Just understand that gelcoat is thin. Boat builders can not put it on thick as it cracks and crazes. Thus, the THIN layer of gelcoat. Each boater should only wet sand, polish, and remove gelcoat as much as needed to get to a clean, shiny finish.

Once you wear through gelcoat, it is gone. Re-gel coating a boat is an expensive, professional-only job.

If your boat is not too bad... try something like this... www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Marine-Fiberglass-Restoration-System/dp/B0000AY4YT

Thanks Seabuddy! I think I'll start with the Mequires. I like their automotive products.

Amazon discounts Meguiars. It did not seem to me from your boat storage set-up that you need to do the wet sanding. You only want to do what it takes to get it to your personal happiness that it shines level. Save the rest of the gelcoat for another time.

I think this one is not hard enough for your deck, but it might work for the parts of the boat that did not get direct sun.

This might be too harsh for all over the boat. Get one jar and only use it on the worst areas.

www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Heavy-Duty-Oxidation-Remover/dp/B0000AY4YX

Note, if this does not do it, then you must wet sand. But, I believe it will prove more than enough.

then use the less intense one in the prior thread for the rest of the boat. Sign up for Amazon Prime to save freight and just get these two. Try it and report back. I think you can early cancel Amazon Prime after you get all your Meguiar's stuff.

You will still need to to do a polish step and then wax as a follow-up. These two first products are just for you to see how bad your gelcoat really is.
