TOPIC: 1971 Checkmate MX-18

Hello All!

Well, as of last Feb. I've been new to the boating community. We purchased an older boat with the intent to repaint and make it our own. Well.... I'm kinda having to do a little more than just repaint... After getting the Mercury 150 to run and taking the boat out this summer, I've came across much more than I've bargained for. After tearing the seats and carpet out I noticed the sub-floor cracked and the main stringer rotten. Decided to go ahead and pull everything out and lift the motor off and found the rotten transom to boot! I have to finish ripping out what's left of the old transom before I start rebuilding but, living here in Wisconsin Mother Nature is taking a turn quickly! So I've wrapped her up tight and I'm going to spend my winter nights researching and learning how to rebuild to old Gem! I have attached the photos that I have so far but will probably not be doing much till spring time next year..

Winter weather seems to be setting in early even down south this year, but we'll keep the coffee on and leave a light on for ya here.

Here's the boat when I got her home and cleaned up a bit.

What I was in the middle of doing before the cold set in.. Have the hull ready to split and digging out what was left of the transom..
