TOPIC: Holsclaw roller bunks

Prepping the MFG for vacation. The PowerCat does not have all the bugs worked out yet.

While the boat is in the water for the week we are on vacation I thought i'd replace some rollers. I've done some of the keel rollers already. But the bunk rollers are hard as rock and some are missing the end caps.

But, it looks like it'd be a major pita to get them off. Looks like they are pressed on and would need cut off. Not something I want to do while on vacation.

If that is the only way to do it, i'll wait until we get home. Have a look and let me know what the easiest way to do it would be. I can't seem to find these exact rollers either.

I had to reread as I was sure you got the Shorelandr from Brian with the 18C.
If you can't find rollers and shafts that will swap in place of the existing units, then I wonder if any of the roller bunks on the market will mount to the C channels if you remove the rollers.
I have a Lil Dude galvanized under my Power Cat 16T, it has rollers set horizontally, wow what a breeze to launch and retrieve.

The Holsclaw bunk rollers are pretty hard to find, however. (They're a different size than any other that I've found.) The replacement roller bunk like Bill suggested may be your best bet to keep the roller function.

I do have a spare set of Holsclaw rollers if you need them, but they're in the same condition yours are in.

That shorelandr was a mess! The bunks were on with screws that fell out. The metal brackets under the bunks had were bent! Since the screws fell out the bunks moved and the bottom of the hull hit the metal bracket while bringing her home. I replaced them with 2 4x12 bunks that the 'Cat sits on quite nice and added some side bumpers.

I considered the roller bunks but was worried that they will not fit the channel of the Holsclaw or the brackets the channel is on.

I know you said they are a different size than most. Wonder if it would hurt putting 2 smaller rollers on one shaft?

It looks like you have a couple options to adapt readily available roller bunks to the holsclaw.
Run a strip of suitable fir lumber down the with of those C clamps that the roller bunk assemblies bolt to. Then atop that lumber attach the roller bunks
Or, fit the roller bunks to the existing long C channel after removing the rollers.
Here's a pic of my Lil Dude trailer, which looks like it might be the factory trailer for the 16T as the PC was made in Victoria and the Lil Dude in Ft Worth. My roughly 8" wide rollers sit horizontally across the frame for all three sponsons.
Boy, one thing about Power Cat boats, with a good trailer and dead flat planing/towing surface, they launch/tow/retrieve like a dream.
Big difference in size of the boat from an 18C or 18DC to the 16T.
I miss the size of the C model. But I do like running a single engine. I'm sure I'll just Have to buy another one haha.

The 18DC goes on the trailer like a hand in a glove. Even though I'm using carpeted bunks.

I have not had the 18DC out but 3 times. Have not even hit the 6 hours on the rebuilt motor breakin. We had a baby this summer and it's been too busy to boat. Need to sneak out of work and take the 'cat out myself.

The rollers are about 3" wide and 1.5 across. Couldn't i buy one of these:

and make 3 rollers? Now they are .5 inch thicker but that's only .25 inch difference on height and the bunks are adjustable.

Look at these current shafts. I pretty much have to grind or cut off one end to replace the roller, right?

But you do realize you have to find a boat to restore so the baby has something cruise in ! I figure you have 15 years to get it done ?

Mine are "press flared" on both ends, so yes you would have to grind or cut the ends off to remove. New roller shafts and "pal nuts" would be the ticket with your new roller idea IMHO. I believe it would work out that way Dan.

Try Stoltz rollers www.stoltzind.com/ they make a bunch of odd sizes. I cut down a couple of RP-12s to make 3 piece rollers like you have. I used SS rod with press on caps for mine. Some of the sizes are not carried by his vendors, just call Carl Stoltz in Ft Lauderdale to order what you need.

Exactly what size are your rollers?

I'm looking for a single 3 x 5 x 3/4" roller for my Holsclaw restoration project. As mentioned...Holsclaw used odd sizes which makes it difficult for us!

The trailer has moved on to it's new owner, I just have the bunks left over as I converted it to solid bunks.....

Thanks Chuck, i'm thinking of one of those little kit boats for her and her sisters (we have 3 girls!) then i'll hang my little Merc 9.8 on it! Or maybe a scale mode, usable, of the 18DC.

Essayon, I like those stoltz rollers. and made in the USA! the RP212 here www.stoltzind.com/misc.html could be the ticket but it's 2.5 diameter. Little bigger but i could adjust the bunks down a hair if need be.

It says it has a 5/8 inch hole. Would i use a 1/2 inch rod for it?

dlatshaw, Yes I bought 8' of 1/2" Stainless rod when I redid my Gator.

Mas, you could get a RP-310 from Stoltz and cut it down to 5", it is 5/8" center instead of 3/4". stoltzind.com/photos/images/page39.html

No one makes all of the sizes these old trailers used, you have to be creative to make what is available fit. I added three self centering rollers to my trailer. The original rollers were 6", everyone makes 5". We flipped the brackets and cut an inch off each end and the self centering rollers fit. We used the cut-offs as spacers for the other 5" rollers. I have a 50s Lone Star trailer waiting for restoration that has odd rollers I may have to see how well Stoltz rollers work in a lathe.
