TOPIC: 1953(?) Mastercraft SB150F rim/hub replace/keep?

1953(?) Mastercraft SB150F rim/hub replace/keep? 2 years 4 months ago #146995

Hello,
I just picked up a mastercraft SB150F. I think this is the 1953 trailer shown in the 1953 brochure. The 1954 brochure shows a 4bolt rim and later brochures move do a box tube beam instead of the open welded truss.

The only difference is that the fenders are gone from mine but I can see where they were mounted.

The bearings are uncapped and in poor condition. Should I just replace them and install caps/bearing buddies and continue to use the existing integrated rims/hubs or should I instead try to find a compatible set of aftermarket hubs and switch to a more common 4 bolt rim?

A flat tire with the current setup looks like a bit of a chore and does not allow a roadside swap to a spare without pulling the axle nut off and breaking down the bearings. The 2 piece rim might make changing a tire easier once off the axle but I dont relish the greasy task anywhere but at home.

This is going to see very light loads, it will haul only a sunfish and it's sail, boom and spars. No more than 170lbs on the trailer unless water gets into the hull.
