So I opened my big mouth and said my grand daughter should have a woody boat wagon from the wood on Papa's old Resorter I'm restoring.......I have until May! Now that I have the battens in with 5200 I'm not guppy with it, the sides don't arch out enough. She won't know the difference. But I will everything I look at it . LoL. It's basically a 1/4 scale version of a 16' Century Resorter. Now I need to find 1/4 scale accessories, like a bow light, windshield frame, step pads etc. lol. I guess I could find a 3d printer and print to make Ia mold and use the old screws to melt down and cast but the chroming won't be cheap and not sure I'd have it done by May.

That will be a family treasure to pass down through generations. Excellent... fortunate child. Maybe that wagon should be amphibious with an electric trolling motor with prop guard so it could be used in a pool with a life jacket... ok - Dr. Go! is getting carried away... sorry.

Thanks guys. Its actually going too be a real good practice run for the full size Resorter since I'm going to finish this the same way.
Dr. Funny you should say that since it probably would be fine until I put the holes in the bottom for the hardware and some others for water in case any gets in and needs to drain.

Woops. Sorry Bob... I wasn’t thinking about drain hole for land use and hardware... I was just getting carried away with how cool that project is. I don’t have your talent, so I won’t be showing your finished product to the grandkids. I see where the Sunnyland boat show is canceled for 2021... so that gives you one year to finish the big boat to show it off and I get to save for another year to head down to Florida to see it if I visit family. Great practice project!

Ok so all the side planks are bedded and screwed to the battens and frames. Stem is rough shaped and will get final shaping once the 5200 is dry. Will work on transom next but has to have the 5200 dried before I can really shae the side plank ends clean to the transom frame.

Excellent work. There are going to be some excited little ones whomever gets to see it and sit in it! Hard to believe my grandpa built 4 separate boats for his family and extended family...one a year in the basement using 2 separate Brace and bit drills... one to pilot holes, the then next with a blade counter sink bit, then all hand driven brass screws every inch. Dad was in high school and would help drive screws until his palms were blistered... Grandpa worked at a steel mill since 1919 when he was 16 and he pulled hot samples with heavy tongs... by the late 30s and early 40s he had forearms like Popeye and calluses thick enough on his hands that he didnt get blisters... Dad said he could just go and go....dirt floor basement with a 5'9" ceiling a 6 foot 2 man at 250. I saw him cut his palm with a slip of a knife at about 62 and I was going to run and get grandma...he said its ok...no blood as he had not cut through the calluses yet. I used some of his tools like hand planer, rasp, and angle finder, but I skipped the egg beater drills and used power tools on my high school built boat... he was tough and patient! He would have loved your projects, Bob! I was 9 when he passed, but Dad shared his tools, his secrets, and the boating passion to get me hooked for life. I sure wish I could have built a few project with him, but 50 years at the mill took its toll...stroke 6 months after retirement and a year in bed before passing...At least he lived his boating passion along the way. I built my little 3 point hydroplane in his honor. You surely will be making lifelong memories with this project! Keep the pictures coming.

Thanks Dr, your grandpa sounds like my kind of guy! My grandpa on my dad's side came over from Germany at 16 and worked at the Chrysler tank plant in Detroit all his life. He was a machinist who would also do work out of his basement. I still have his Southbend lathe that I got when my dad passed. My dad sold the horizontal mill long ago unfortunately. My avatar is of the 1960 WaveMaker he bought new to fish from on lake St. Claire. Michigan. Obviously I got that boat when my dad passed and restored it. That boat started my passion early as our family would ride around lake st. Claire and meet up with friends and I'd see all the Chris Crafts, Centuries and Garwood's. The Resorter was inevitable I guess. Lol. Yeah my granddaughter is going to love this thing as well as hers Hopefully.;) On a side note I always loved those little 3 point hydros but I don't think I can kneel that long anymore. Lol

There's an Amphicar-type possibility here...Give some thought to stern seating, a cammed-out mid-mounted V6 and retractable wheels.

Cool story, Bob. Thanks for sharing. Grandpa would remove the basement staircase and pull the whole thing aside in the spring since it was open style like on a deck... that gave direct access to the outside door. They would turn the 14 foot boats on their side and send them out the door. You work with what you have. Great family story you have. I also like how Jan thinks! And I am pretty sure he can or has done most of what he thinks!

Lol thanks Jan, of course that's too late since I already put the 3/4" holes in each stringer/ frame section to let water, milk, soda whatever a way out, like you suggested. Yeah I know I actually listened to ya.

Dr., yes Jan has pretty much done anything he has suggested to a boat at one time or another!

What an amazing project... looks great. Also a great way to keep the woodworking skills and tools ready to get back to the big project! Built like a tank, yet fit and finished like a fine collector boat! Hope your family can keep it around 100 plus years... I still have a couple of Grandpa’s hand built wooden toys that are over 80 years old. I will be passing them down.

Thanks! Outstanding, glad you're able top keep that stuff in the family. That's what I'm hoping this will do. It's now bleached and drying, just needs the raised grain lightly sanded then stained.

Hey Bob. Just stumbled on this thread, Amazing.
I might have some brightwork you can have. I'll check through my box of stuff that I need to get rid of.
I'll post some pics if I find something that would work for you. All free of course. I just need to get things out of storage. The good Dr. has dibs on steering setups though.

We will find a way to cross paths once or twice if possible this summer… sounds like a far deal on some steering.

Fabulous! Great how other members jump in to help! Wish I were 5… Now kids can get pulled around and eat ice cream and take naps and parents don’t have to carry them! What an amazing gift and work of art all at the same time! Kudos to you on this project.

No name? Home port? Registration numbers? (Use your birthdate for the numbers.)

A non-functioning steering wheel would be a cool addition. Glue-up two layers of 1/2" plywood and cut it out with three spokes. Route all the edges, sand stain, varnish. 9"-10" should be about the right size.

Last item: A Century burgee for the stern?

The pandemic is pretty much over and we've had our shots for months now. I expect you two to come visit again soon. Stay a couple days so I'll have enough time to get some work out of you.

LOL, yeah I know I have to get "Mini Me" on the transom yet. My daughter had a Cricut cutter that Im going to get gold leaf vinyl latters cut and applied on the next trip up. my duaghter is also going to come up with a flag for the anchor light staff. I know it needs a burgee up front but the bow light doesn't have a mast hole unfortunately. I thought about wheel and windshield etc. I may still work some "additons" for it. ;)

yeah I need to get up your way again brother!
