Our little 1941 Chris Craft won the Captain's Choice award at the Lake Sinclair boat show in Georgia last weekend. I've never won any kind of award before...couldn't believe it. It's a little thing but Peggy got a kick out of it. Oh...I restored a 1921 mahogany portable Victrola. We took it to the show and played a bunch of my old 78 RPM jazz records.

Hey Jan, looks like I'm late to the party again. Gorgeous as always and the boat looks great also.
Congrats. Didja get a trophy or ribbon or anything?? Something to hang on the wall and put on your website.

My trophy is a piece of driftwood with 1/3 of a brass propeller screwed to it. It's one of those deals where "It's the thought that counts."

Very cool! Although I am nobody who knows what I am looking at with wooden boats, (but spent 12 years as a professional custom cabinet builder) I have always been impressed with your wood working abilities and surprised/not surprised to hear you have never won any award for your work. I am only not surprised because I never got a vibe from you that you did any of this work for any kind of competition and maybe never put any of your work into any type of competitive setting. You do very beautiful work Jan. Keep it up.

No, you're right. I've never been into judging at all. I build drivers, not show boats. We were at the Blue Ridge Chapter boat show in Millageville, GA...same as last year...just to putt around and hang out. However, this year they voted my little CC Captain's choice. In all the antique cars and boats I've ever restored, it's the only award I've ever received, which is understandable since I've never "shown" any of my restorations. I didn't show this one either. It was just tied up at the dock. Actually, it's a very silly thing but my wife got a kick out of it.

Well I think you should "show" your restorations. And at the least, the wife will get a kick out of it. Happy wife, happy life.
