TOPIC: My new to me Boat, Wolverine

I brought this home on Tues. night. I have ran a few gallons of gas through her in the past couple days. It is marked as an Elgin, but it was made my Wolverine. It is a '58 modelwith Plylap, kind of a lap strake bottom. I have the original bill of sale. The orginal owner has passed away many years ago, but his grandson kept it nice for 30yrs. Now it is my turn.

Thanks for the kind words. It is in the heated workshop. It does look good,IMHO, but the varnish is very thin and the grain needs some sealing. This winter it will get a redo. I was looking for a winter project and this may be just what the Dr. ordered. Fortunately, it will not be a bad, but fun project to do. It runs well with the '86 30hp Johnson on it. It will just touch 28 mph with 2 adults and will do 26 with 4 adults. I had actually expected to lose more speed than that. I do have an OMC fetish for a period correct motor like a standard '57-'58 Evinrude or Johnson 35hp.(never got into the Larks and Javilins) I am sure there is a short shaft motor with electric start out there waiting for me.

Looking for some minor details. Were these hulls stained, or varnished over plain mahgonay? My wife asked me, if I was going to send the bright work in for replating. I am not sure I can say no to her. LOL

WOW Dave! She absolutely glows. What a great find and you're right just the perfect size project for the winter. I agree 100% on being as historically correct as possible. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the compliment. I just came in from the workshop, as I am chumping at the bit. I am waiting for the titles to get here before I start tearing into her. In the mean time, I keep planning on where to start first. I am sure it will be the interior first, than upside down for the outside of the hull, while the bright work is at the platers. My gosh, the titles has been in the mail for 30hrs. already, must be traveling by horseback!
