TOPIC: Best "caulk" to cover nails

Best "caulk" to cover nails 14 years 6 days ago #21709

Hi Guys,

I've got the SeaMac (plywood) stripped and reefed out. This weekend I will CPES- then it's time to plug up seams, dings and countersunk nails.

I'll be using 5200 in the seams, but I'm just not sure what would be the most leakproof and sturdy stuff to cover over the nails and dings. (never had bungs, just caulk). After the filling I will be painting over it all.

Would life caulk be the answer or is there something else that is better.

Thanks in advance,

Jerri

Don't use 3M5200 for covering fasteners. Not the correct application. Famowood putty is what is used by the professional and home body restorers. I have used Smith's Fill-It 2 part filler for fasteners holes that are to be painted.

famowood is good for areas that are stained and/or varnished.
