TOPIC: Finally

After two years in this economy I finally have a contract boat to restore; 1946 Century, 20'. My garage is now full of Century boats. A 1955 Resorter (Zip) and the 1946. It will be a long winter.

Looks like it's going to be a "woody winter" too, congrats on getting your project(s) lined up Brian.

Well, the good news is if fuel oil prices skyrocket, or I run low on firewood, I can cut these puppies up and burn them in the wood stove.

Pulled about 800 bungs on the stbd side this afternoon. Hands have the marks to prove it. Maybe another 1200 to go to complete the stbd and port sides. Every bung has to come out, and every screw needs to be tightened up to a full turn. Then about 2000 new bungs need to be driven in. I'll take a couple of photos later...when my hands work again.

I take it the bottoms are fine. Mine was done but has to be redone. Hw do you flip them to do the bottom work?

Hey Bob, Don't know what kind of set up you have but I used 2 chain falls and a couple helpers. Lifted one side and when I had clearance i pulled the bottom and lowered on cradle. I flipped it back by my self and that was a cluster... but got it. Of course this was glass not wood. My owens I did on the trailer but it's plywood hull and outboard which you won't be able to. Have fun!!!

Making progress on the 1946 Century. About 2000 bungs removed, all decks off, and working on a detailed survey.

She looks pretty solid from the photos. Doesn't appear to be any rot. Do you have to do the bottom also?

Yes it looks real good in the pictures. I hope it is as good as it looks, it can sure make the job easier.
