TOPIC: thompson sea coaster

I ran across this boat at a car recycler yesterday,,they said $300.
is this anything special ? it appears really complete.i have a few more pics but do not know how to post more than 1 at a time ?

I would jump too. $300 is a pretty small investment for a Thompson with a trailer and motor. Good luck.

Hey guys i was told it does not have a title on the boat or trailer only a bill of sale is this a big deal ? in Colorado you only have to have a title for the trailer, are they hard to get ?

If you don't want it. tell me where it is. I will go get it
By the way you and I are really close to each other.

Grab it. You could scavange the hardware and get $300.00 by selling it piece by piece. But don't do that. Get her and retore her and have fun with her.

Look for a hull ID stamped into the wood of the transom inside the boat, most often starboard side and sometimes stamped upside down. Also look for a rectangular metal builder's tag with manufacturer name and location and serial number. Serial number and hull ID are DIFFERENT. With both I can tell you what year she is.

Pull up the floor boards and look for rotten ribs especially where they butt up against the keelson. Look for a hook or hog in the hull from improper storage.

Know nothing about them other than to say that is one pretty little boat.

My little 17' fiberglass runabout is "nothing special," but we've had more fun with it than you can measure.

I have decided to go get the Boat this saturday. And bring it home.
I am going to need as much help as i can get trying to bring this boat back. Not sure if i have lost my mind or not. LOL

Look for the hull ID stamped into the wood of the inside of the transom. Also look for the serial number on the metal builder's tag. Serial number and hull ID are different. I can get you the model year with those two codes.

Glad to hear your getting her. Have no fear there's plenty of folks to help you through her restoration. Get a copy of "The Complete Wooden Runabout Restoration Guide by Don Dannenberg". It's like $25 and change on Amazon.com. Great book, it talks a lot about Chris Crafts but still applies to the majority of wooden runabouts.

Picked up the thompson yesterday. did some more looking at the ribs. looks like most of them have some rot. and the boat is not sitting on the trailer very well. the bunks are short and that is why the roller is pushing up the center of the boat. here are some photos of the underside.
