So I'm still working on the Crosby. I'm nearly done sanding and have some Captain's 1015 varnish coming from Jamestown Distributors. My local marine store said they could order it and have it in two day "with no freight charges" for "only $132." I told them it was only $80 from Jamestown. He said that was probably without "haz mat" shipping charges. So I ordered a gallon of Petitt's from Jamestown for $79 and found a coupon online for free shipping...and got an email a couple hours later saying it had already shipped out.
Back to why I'm here. I'll be ready to paint the white deck lines soon and don't trust my hand painting straight with a paint brush. I saw a you-tube video of a guy using a Beugler pinstriper to do the lines on a Chris Craft and made it look oh so easy. It's pretty much a mini roller with paint being fed to it in a small chamber. I've looked into buying one. The cheapest I've found is $75 on Craigslist clear across the country. On Ebay they're around $100-120. Too much for me to spend on a one-time application, as I don't think I'd use it in the next 10 years or so. This is probably a stab in the dark, but does anyone have one they would be willing to loan me. It's small, so shipping would be minimal both ways. And I'd make sure it came back to you cleaner than it came to me. I'd also try to include some handcrafted Central Oregon beer.
Thanks for reading.

Brian
if you have not already painted the top deck, you could paint the stripe color with rattle can, brush, whatever ....after it cures well, lay down some 1/8" pinstripe tape, its pretty easy to follow the groves with vinyl tape stripeing, then paint your top deck coat and remove the tape stripes when done

Hey guy masking tape and a large or medium Artist brush will work real well but....................what is to much to pay for a pinstripe kit considering ....i think there are a few different brands out there .

MP,
Good idea but, Brian correct me if I'm wrong, he's varnishing the bow. It looks like the Chris Crafts or Century's so the bow wood is blonde and they paint the white between the Blonde planks.

Brian,
The pin stripper is what a lot of the old restorers use but you could do what MP said and tape it off only tape it so you can just use a wider brush and paint the white. Let it dry a little bit then pul the tape up before it completely dries so it doesn't lift the edge of the paint and leave a ridge. Make sure you use the GOOD blue paint tape that doesn't let paint seep under the edge.

Thanks guys. Here's a pic of what I'm working with. This is before I sanded it. Right now, I have the old varnish sanded out of the channels of the white lines and I stopped right where the boatlife caulk begins. There's just enough of a channel to keep me straight on the lines, but that pinstriper made it look like I could finish the whole deck before I finished a beer.

Here's the Beugler striper in action. Not sure it's going to go through. I was having some issues with the download.

Nope. Sorry. Well, you can see it if you type "pinstriping a boat deck" on You-tube. They pinstripe a Chris Craft deck.

Brian, I have one if you're still interested in the loan. I bought it almost 30 yrs ago and they haven't changed much. Tricky to learn so I would suggest some trials on paint. It needs to be thick. Mail me, it would fit in a usps priority small box.

i have used a beugler tool to stripe several boats. i find it was easy to learn to use and does the job quickly. on boats i use the brightsides for striping and boot tops. the consistancy is good for using in the beugler.

Yep, may just have to find one for myself to do the Century. Need to save for some other equipment first though.

It's in the mail this afternoon. Bought it at a world of wheels car show back in '82. One of those demonstration booth things. I think at the time I paid like $15 bucks. Inflation has a funny way of creeping up on us.

Thanks Cal. Can't wait to check it out. I think it's just going to make such cleaner, straighter lines and more width-consistent lines than me taping.
