So I'm at the last stage of my resto and one I've been dreading--attaching the new rub rail I bought from Wefco. If you guys have any "definitely do this" or "definitely don't do that" advice, I'm all ears. When I tore the old rotting rub rail off, it was attached with some pretty gnarly long staples every 2 inches or so and some kind of adhesive. I have a tube of 3M 5200 and was thinking about just using some flat headed screws to attach it. Yes? No?

Brian,
Mine was attached the same way. When you pulled the black insert out, there were staples attaching the main white rubber. I'd use the 5200 but also use either copper staples or stainless steel ones. The staples will help hold it in place while the 5200 dries. That's my suggestion, others can jump in here.

Brian, I know I'm chiming in late here and by now the 5200 has set up. Sure would be nice to see pictures of the finished project.
