TOPIC: 1951 CC Utility

Look at what I found. Looking for some opinions before I go after this guy. Same owner for the last 30 years. What is this thing worth just from the pics guys? (I know, tough to do)!! I will tell you the asking price shortly.

Well hard to tell from pics on how the bottom is or how the transom is, especially where it meets the bottom. Does the engine run? When was it in the water last? How do the seams really look up close? Was the motor winterized after it's last run, assuming it was years ago. Maybe $8k to $10K. Just guessing without rally giving it a good going over in person.

Those are a few of the same questions as me Bob. One thing I did notice is the lack of reg. numbers. He says that the motor is in the boat and was running when her stored it. The windshield and mounts were the only things missing. The seats are there, just not stored with the boat. Closer inspection is of course needed.
Can't tell you the asking price just yet, that would take the fun out of it right??

Nice find Neil. The market for woodies isn't all that hot now so you should be able to get it for a song as long as it need work. I would take an ice pick the next time looking. Pick up the floor boards and poke around the lower frames where they meet the hull, also is the bilge oil soaked under the engine? not a good thing. If you can reach the lower transom bow/frame check that out for rot.

This may sound extreme...but...get a marine surveyor to really inspect it properly. The time and expense of doing the bottom on a CC can be heady...like, $10000 might not get you there. No fooling. The boat looks to be in great shape, from the pictures, but only someone who REALLY knows what he is looking at can really tell. Worth? $7-10000, my guess. Worth it? Sure, pretty boat, and it has the CC name...and it's a barn find, not messed with.
Oh, and original windshield and mounts? At least $1000. Best ask the owner to look around for them.

Okay, the wait is over.
He is asking $3800.
I have not made the trip to check it out yet.

That is a damn great price ! Heck the trailer itself is worth a third of the price. That is an easy money maker without even blowing off the dust !!!
Back in 1988 I bought a CC w/ trailer for $6000

It's hardly a sure thing. If you are looking to make an investment, get a pro to check it out. It would not take many repairs to put you very quickly underwater.
If you are looking to have fun with it, I doubt you can do too much wrong at $3800, even if it turns out to be a big project, someone else will want it at that project price you paid.
But prices vary rather wildly on CCs, depends on what model and what condition, there are PLENTY of very nice similar boats in turnkey condition for under $10000.

I spent $3200 for my Sabre (avatar) and put just under $4000 and three years work to get her up and running. Well worth the time and effort. If you buy, look at it as a fixer-upper, certainly not a put in the water and go. If you plan on doing the work yourself it ain't going to cost no 10 grand for a bottom. Check out the Century boat club or Chris Craft boat club websites and get their opinions. Keep in mind that the woodies are a lot of upkeep but the thumbs-up you get on the water and at the ramp are priceless. Check out the Don Dannenburg books at the library or google them, they are the bible on woodies. IMHO

like this model ..You do not mention the engine.. If it has a
FOUR cyl 60 hp , I would see that as a less desirable model .
Most should have a six .. Maybe a higher HP six.
If the bottom is getting soft or taking water (?) the info
above is valid for higher $$ repair. $ 3,800 would be fair
mkt value or less.. All of these members should be in the ACBS
can ask for contacts.. I heard not great reports from SURVEY
vendors lately .. Some sill still charge full price for a 3 min
view of a wood boat & just say "Not worth it"!! If a great
barn find , also find fault & try to tell friend. ?

PS Does not cost anything to look.. IMO .

The add disappeared. I called the guy back to make sure he still had it and make arrangements to see it. He said he still has the boat but the price was incorrect in the add. It jumped to $4800.
I did not make the trip.
