TOPIC: Progress on my Power Cat 14T

Re:Progress on my Power Cat 14T 13 years 10 months ago #7548

Caulked the deck/hull seam of the bow last night, made up some seat base pieces (got the stainless hardware for them this a.m.), sun went down so I washed the truck, then quit for the night. Too darn hot!

Got my logos and step plate surrounds sanded and clear coated this a.m. Need to attach those, attach the holders for my dock pole, figure out where the fire extinguisher will mount, change the impeller, torque the lower bolts for the rams, and check the wheel bearings on my trailer. I wouldn't mind giving the interior a coat of paint (same stuff I used on the hull - 2 part epoxy) now that I've cleaned it up. I need some on the hull in a few places anyways, and want to coat the seat bases with it, and the controls box mount. Now that I've figured out the control box mount, I am also making a new nicer looking one.

Getting some cheap seats and life preservers today to use till I get the nice ones.

So now my worry is the merc. Man o man, I sure hope it works okay.

Prop, seat bases, control box mount, cheap seats 13 years 10 months ago #7658

Pics have to tell the story, gotta run! Inside boat pic shows how I cut the seat mounts to all be level. Other than the red oak 1 X 2 stuff for the seat bases, this is all 3/4" mahogany marine plywood (11 ply).

Maybe get in the water tomorrow, but waiting on some comments on my new impeller video over on the merc forum. Actually, it doesn't seem to spit out water any different than before I changed the impeller.

Thanks, but I am having major problems getting the LU on after an impeller change. Can't get it into gear, or when I can, I can't get it into neutral.

Power Cat 14T in motion transom shot 13 years 10 months ago #9061

Had the boat out Friday morning for a fairly calm day test run, second day (including last Saturday) she's been out. Man o man, talk about a fun boat! Only got up to 38, but that was goin upstream on the Hudson bumpin 5200 rpm. Wanna get a 19 pitch prop on, see how she works. Old merc is runnin great!

Feels great Heather, grinnin from ear to ear. So out on the Saturday the 5th at our Silver Lake meet, got it working, then this test run early Friday before we took off for the weekend, now it looks like Tuesday will be nice, so Gail and I will take it out after work. Got nice new life vests, Lawrence sent me a neat little Eagle depth finder (karma award...), had to get a new coil. These Sierra coil posts about break if you look at 'em cross eyed! Second one to break.

Beat from the trip, so no work on the boat today, gonna go take a nap. Got our first cruise-in of the year tomorrow night for our car club, so tomorrow night is out too. Can't wait to get back in it.

Thanks!

Some people are like slinkies... Not much good for anything, but they sure are fun to push down the stairs.

Thanks Doug and kajun. Just went out and put a new coil in the old Merc. Not too hard to do. Supposed to be nice Tuesday, so off we go again! Have yet to burn through a 6 gallon tank, but am close.

I've been following your restoration for quite a while, I know you had a few ups & downs during that time but you kept going where many wouldn't have. Congrats on launching, I know it must have been a special day, hope you get many years enjoyment, NICE JOB !!

A couple upgrades 13 years 10 months ago #9428

First trip with the trailer (Silver Lake) rear three light bar (white plastic) broke off at the mounting bolts somehow, no clue. Put an aluminum one on tonight, installed a roller for a transom saver to mount on, got the transom saver one. Also replaced a pain in the rear coupler and added a big flat washer for the chain bolt.

Tuesday night before we left for our ride, I put a big aluminum flat washer on the inside of the bow eye and tightened her down. Boy, did that make a difference!
