You have a high profile drive. Actually I believe that all the drives were high profile until the early 70s (but I could be wrong). What that means visually is that your exhaust shroud is about 4" taller. Internally there are obviously differences regarding shaft length but that is not the issue.
The issue is that your motor sits 4" higher from the bottom of the boat. This makes servicing the starter and such easier BUT it also means your transom cut out is 4" too high. All (or at least most)late model electric shifts were low profile and all 400/800 series were low profile. |

Something tells me I better keep these for a template later... 
The first wood I found that wasn't rotten. I've seen some people stop here and replace just the back 3/4 of the deck. Why would you do that??? |

Having been through all this before, I can tell you that when you said it's "getting a little thin down there," you're right. When we fitted all our new floor framing, we did it from walk boards laid across the bulkheads. This allowed us to lay out everything perfectly. As you already know, I'm sure, when you step onto the hull, there is a LOT of give/distortion. We bedded all the framing members in copious 5200. All was held together with 3" stainless screws. After the 5200 cured, we had rock solid framework...dead level.

Your frame work looks awesome!
I added some extra around the edges with 5200 and two extra stringers up the center to support the deck till the foam went in. I had to use support boards as well during a lot of the work. I didn't add the floatation foam (7 gallons worth) until after the deck was glued, screwed, and tabbed into place. I wish I could have seen how you did this before I did mine. I was in uncharted waters for sure.  |

Grinding!!!!! I was so tired after spending an entire day in the boat with a 4 1/2 inch grinder. Full tyvex suit, respirator, ear muffs, and of course, eye protection.
This is the part where a lot of people quit on a boat and find something else to take apart. Not me, the constructive part is what I live for!

I can't remember if you have seats. I have a complete set of five original seat frames, no cushions, that the owner didn't want to use...cheap to good home.

Things I've learned so far:
1. Anything can look good in a picture. 2. You will spend as much time cleaning up as you will actually working on your boat! That dust is murder. 
That being said, another day was spent with a shop vac and broom getting rid of the grinding dust. |

A big special thanks to Jan Hadley @ Nautilus Restorations, he hooked me up with a set of seat frames today at a super awesome price!! Jan knew I needed these pretty bad and could have priced them high. He offered them to me at a price I couldn't refuse and I brought them home today! Thanks Jan!!

After I got the Deluxe cleaned out and up in the air, I gave the hull a good looking at. Time to access the damage and make the final decision. Give the old girl a heart, lung and kidney transplant or make this her autopsy!
I heard the words from that old Six Million Dollar Man show...

The stringers in a deluxe are fiberglass filled with foam. These will need some repair and reinforcing before anything else can happen...

Ponyboy I PM'd you earlier for specs on a 2 blade bronze and will try again. I'm looking for a 14 x 24 Mercury 2 blade to change to an OMC hub. Did you sell the original?

Check this out, I found 4 screws sticking up through the hull. These were covered by the scabs on the outside of the hull.
Anyone got any ideas why someone did this?

I can't say for sure but a good guess would be that your boat is haunted. The screws were probably put there to create a magnetic anomaly, generally thought to interfere with visits from those on the "other side." You should probably keep a Proton Pack with a Neutrino Wand handy...just in case. I hope this information proves to be helpful.
OK...So where are all the before/during/after gelcoat photos? Lastly, you've got a deal on the engine/outdrive. I'll pick it up next week, bearing three gifts. If your US Comp order has arrived, I can save you a trip. |

I don't thonk tin foil will affect a compass and I am sure the 4 stainless screws won't.
My depth perception isn't too good in those pictures but it looks to me like they are at low points. I suggest someone drilled the holes to drain water. |

They used them to hold the patch on in case the epoxy failed, or they were just dumb^$@*^&$.

Photo update: Cutting out the deck and treating the bottom and edges with polyester resin. The deck is glued in with PL premium, stainless screws.
I have found that 5 gallon buckets full of water make good weights to hold things in place.
