Well lots of honey do's but got some more work done. Got Frame one and support done and CPESing right now. I also got the Chine blank home today. Welded up a couple of 1/4" x 1 1/2" pieces to make brackets.
2 1/4" x 6" x 19' for $20! I love the Amish mills! 
Mother is the necessity of invention. Not bad for a one time run. Don't think Id trust the mirror more than once.  Bob |

Thanks guys. I only wished I had ordered the wood when I first got the boat and I would have saved a crap load but when I first got the boat I didn't know I would need enough for a whole new boat! lol Unfortunately they don't have Mahogany.

Hey Rick, yes, the Centuries used White Oak for the bottom frames, keel, transom frame and chines. They used Mahogany for the upper frames, side and bottom planks and basically everything else. Blonde deck planks were Avondire after late '40's or 1950 I think. Prior to that they bleached the Mahogany.

Bob I've found that if you need mahogany a local cabinet shop will carry an inventory or can order it for you. I got some pieces locally for cheaper than one of our lumber yards when I just needed one piece. Fortunately there is no shortage of lumber yards or cabinet shops in my area that handle African and Honduran.

Well got the transom off today after work. Weather has been cooperating.
Just a little rot! 
Now to get this rebuilt. I have the oak planed on both sides so I can re-saw it to 3/8" and build up the top and bottom arches. I made the bending jig already so I can glue them up vice steam bending a solid piece. Don't have a steam bender yet and the original factory ones we're built up also so I'm actually going original. Great restoration project sorry to see your thumb got messed up. It is great to see your documentation and all the photos. By the looks of the boat, hardware and motor, you got a sleeper on your hands! Will be incredible to see it on the water when your all done. Back in the 80s I restored a 1954 14' Century Atwood it had a 1956 35 Evinrude Lark outboard. Got the boat for $300 worked on it for two years and sold it for $3k to a guy who sank it at the Colorado river. The best part was teaching my boys how to catch fish!! Your Resorter looks like it will make and great fishing / ski boat. Thanks, Clint in Castaic |

Here Bob,
found this on line, for an in expensive way to steam bend. He used 6 mil plastic. This may help somewhere down the line ? I may try the sheet 6 mil plastic you can get at the Depot, and make my own bags ? |

Thanks Clint, love those old Century outboard models too! Sorry it sink but at least you made a nice profit. Still sucks to see/know all your hard work was siting at the bottom of a river at one point.
Thanks Rick, yeah I was over due for updates. Fastfibre, thanks yeah it does tame a bit of a masochist to own a wood boat, with all the preventative maintenance involved, if you want to keep her in good working order and looking good. Thanks Chuck, very interesting, would never have thought to use the plastic. Looks like a much easier way to go I may just have to try that, much easier to use on the wide side and bottom planks when the time comes. Bob |

Well Cal just so you know, one of the guys on the club page uses a turkey/seafood cooker for his steamer. He has round piece of plywood that clamps to the handles and it has a furnace stack coming out of the top then to a flex dryer hose to the steam box. I plan on doing the same thing since the Admiral didn't want me to get a cooker to do a turkey or seafood/crawdads so this is my way of getting one. I need a "steamer"!!!! lOl

Good reasoning. My home made cooker is also multifunctional. Used it to cook down maple syrup, boil lobster, steam wood, and other duties when accessories are connected to it. Made it from my old swimming pool filter. Figure it out
PS, The tower is filled with glass marbles to condense unwanted impurities in the steam water  |

So I've had to travel some for work but I have been trying to get the transom done. Unfortunately it didn't come out as good as I'd hoped. I got the resorcinol glue in and glued up the upper frame and it came out fine.
I then glued up the inner two layers of the lower. 
I then cut the batten notches and glued up the outer layer. 
The final result 
Unfortunately there was a twist in it!!!! Apparently when I moved the divider blocks out some (for more bend so less spring back when dried) It wasn't completely square!! AAARRRGGGHHH So it was a good learning experience, thank goodness I have some more White Oak I can plain down and glue up. This resorcinol is great stuff but you have to clamp the crap out of it The Steamer top is done but I have to take a final pic and post it in the steamer post I made on the main forum. Bob |

Bob, things are looking up. You have options.
1. Make the boat into a narrow barrel back and use the bow. 2. Narrow up the complete boat and cut out the skewed section so you can use it. 3. Get a gallon of Bondo and "fix" the void area that would be there. 4. Make a new bow. I personally would go with number four but we have both seen number 3 used before. When I made the Sabre bottom bow I did it out of a solid 2 1/2" strip of white oak, took a long time to soften up then I screwed 2X4 ends to my workbench in the curve I needed, actually overcurved(?) it cuz you know it will bend back a little and then "C" clamped the hot bow to the 2X4s and let it sit for a few days. I routed out the batten slots after the bow was installed so I knew exactly where they would be placed. Looking great so far, keep pluggin' away. Cal

Ok so I have been busy between work travels. Got more oak re-sawn and glued up but going to leave it in the glue frame for two days before I remove it. The steamer lid is done also but that's in the main forum thread I had made.

well now that I have the new truck problem solved (see NBR post) I could get back to the transom. I was able to get all the pieces cut out and predrilled. It's got the first coat of CPES on it and the second goes on tomorrow so I can put it together with 5200 this weekend.

Cal of course I would Well I finally got it all glued/screwed together. Of course that was after I had to re-fab two new upper corner blocks since they both split while screwing them together!!! So after re-fabing and some 5200 and screws, along with a few "5200 fingers" it's done and drying. Once it's dried I can cut off the drips.
